Description

What Kind of Lesson Is This?

hilokal-korean-gym-1

The best way to learn to speak Korean is through repetition. By practicing common phrases and the building blocks of the language over and over again with a native speaker, you’ll be creating a solid foundation for mastering spoken fluency of the language.

Classes are 1 on 1 with a student and a teacher, although if there’s another student on your level you’ll be able to take part in a 1 to 2 class, giving you even more exposure to the spoken language.

▶️LEVEL: We offer nine distinct levels, spanning learning the Korean alphabet right the way up to studying advanced news articles.

▶️TEXTBOOK: Talk to Me in Korean textbooks are provided, while you can also bring your own learning content to the class.

▶️TEACHERS: All our teachers are Korean natives. Think of them as your personal language trainer, pushing you further and further to reach your goals.

Our Philosophy

hilokal-korean-gym-6

This class isn’t just about learning the Korean language. It’s about training your skills, just like you would in a dojo. That’s why it’s called the Korean Gym. It’s a more hands-on approach to tackling the language, giving you the chance to start practicing right away.

Our teachers are more like personal trainers than lecturers, adept at pushing you to start learning the language immediately rather than spending hours buried in books. You don’t need any prior Korean to join this class: it’s open to everybody. We have nine different levels, ranging from the basics of the alphabet to advanced news articles in Korean.

Because of the practical nature of our Korean gym training sessions, our students are able to jumpstart their Korean education. We prioritize practical use of the language so you’ll be able to get talking with Korean people sooner rather than later, which will give you a massive advantage when it comes to learning the culture and familiarizing yourself with your new home.

How the Lessons Work

Your job is to show up to the class and read the opening paragraph of the lesson. From there, your trainer will guide you through quizzes and drills, designed to build a firm understanding of the language from the very first minute.

The best way to learn a new subject is to take an active part in the lesson — that’s why we train our students to ask questions proactively, rather than sit and passively listen. As far as we’re concerned, there’s no such thing as a bad question. This can be quite a difference from the previous language classes you may have taken, but our students tell us all the time what a fantastic way it is to learn.

Training yourself to ask questions even when you feel nervous or self-conscious is a vital skill. Although it’s not easy for everybody, being able to practice it in a safe environment is the single best way to pick up the habit. The skills you learn in our Korean gym sessions will make all the difference down the line, and adopting a proactive approach to learning will help you in any other educational opportunities you want to pursue in the future.

Our trainers know how overwhelming the Korean language can seem to people trying to pick it up for the first time. An entire new alphabet can be terrifying, not to mention the structure of the grammar and the extensive vocabulary. They keep all this in mind as they walk you through the lessons, which means that you’ll be able to expose yourself to the Korean language in a friendly, open environment.

Post-Workout Language Meet-Up

hilokal-korean-gym-4

After your Korean gym session, you’ll be able to join us in a social language exchange. Between 30 and 70 people will meet up and bond together over drinks, typically speaking either Korean or English, though there are Spanish, Chinese, Japanese among other languages offered. It’s the perfect way to get your feet wet in Korean culture and make some new friends — and best of all, it’s included in the Korean gym ticket price!

How Do I Join?

hilokal-korean-gym-5

Taking part in the Korean gym program couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is find the date and location most convenient to you, and then pre-book with the Korean trainer who will be the best match for you. If there aren’t any trainers currently available, there’s no need to worry: you can book anyway, and we’ll pair you up with one of the many friendly & experienced trainers we have on standby.

If you’d like an easy way to get access to our Korean gym language training sessions, check out information about our multipass offer here. It’s the perfect way to snag yourself a discount if you’d like to sign up for several sessions.

It was great and fun sometimes it would be good to have dedicated times to speaking korean and times to speak English though so there is a balance in the language exchange
