What Is a Language Exchange?

Welcome to our language exchange, where you’ll get the chance to meet natives and other foreigners who are like you. Our language exchange sessions are casual, friendly experiences where you’ll be able to practice your target language while making new friends at the same time.

It’s nothing at all like a typical classroom experience — it’s more like a bustling café, full of people who have come from all walks of life in order to spend time together and build a connection with each other.

About 30 to 70 people join our language exchanges for each event, which means that the pool of potential new friends you could make is expanding all the time. We’re proud to be able to offer exchanges in a number of different languages, including English, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, and French, to mention just a few of our most popular options.

Our social meet-ups take place throughout the week, meaning that no matter how busy your schedule is, you’ll be able to find a time that suits you. You can find more information about the different times our meet-ups are held on our events page. Check out our gallery to see just how much fun the participants in our language meet-ups end up having.

Who Takes Part?

The most popular age group for participants in our language meet-ups are people in their 20s and 30s. You don’t have to be fluent in your target language; as a matter of fact, we offer dedicated tables according to your level, running the gamut from beginner right the way through to advanced.

Typically, about 70% of our guests are native Koreans, with the remaining 30% being made up of internationals in the same situation as you. This has turned out to be the perfect mix for introducing foreigners to the way social life takes place in Korea. You’ll get the opportunity to meet friendly faces from all over the world in a straightforward, stress-free environment.

Of course, plenty of people feel apprehensive about going to a social event on their own, particularly if they don’t know anybody else there. That’s why we make a point of allowing people to come along to our meet-ups with their friends. As the saying goes, the more the merrier! If you invite your friends from your globalseoulates.com my page, you can both get 5,000krw. Coming late is not a problem, you’ll just be missing out.

FAQs

I’m not great at my target language yet. Can I still come?

Absolutely! All levels are welcome, and we have dedicated tables for each level, meaning that you’ll only be matched up with people who are in the same boat as you are.

Can I come late?

Yes, you can. Come at any time and leave at any time — it’s an informal event, so there’s no problem with dropping in and out as you see fit.

What Makes Our Language Exchange Special?

There are a few important aspects that make our language exchange meet-ups different from the rest. Here are some of the key things we offer that set us apart:

※Our Own Space: GSM Terrace is specifically for our meetups, so we’re able to host multiple meet-ups every day in our own dedicated location. The space itself, the staff, the menu — everything has been designed with the goal of creating the perfect language meet-up in mind.

※Staff Who Care: Our friendly team of staff love inviting new people into the fold. There will always be somebody at the front door ready to greet you and introduce you to the event, as well as somebody who is willing to listen to any feedback you may have.

※Sophisticated Matching System: Our specially designed matching software helps to ensure that you’ll only end up with the very best people for your unique situation.

※Personalized Content: Based on your target language, level, and interests, our system will recommend content tailor-made for you. This will either happen upon arrival, or when you’re registering online.

※Table Rotations: We rotate our tables every single hour, so that you’ll be exposed to as many new people as possible. After all, it’s all about making connections.

※Rewards: The more you come to our events, the more points you’ll earn, which can be exchanged for exciting rewards.

※Standards: We only accept positive people who make the language exchange a better experience for everybody. If one person receives 2 separate complaints, they will be asked to withdraw from all our events.  If you had a bad experience, after each event you'll be given the chance to make yourself heard.

※Consistency: We’re open every Wednesday in Hongdae, and we’re always full.
